A Filipina fan and her husband were shocked when Prince Harry’s fiancee Meghan Markle spoke to them in their native Filipino language during the celebrity couple’s walkabout in Edinburgh. Netizen Jenny Ulay shared the video of her meeting with Meghan in the Scots capital. In the video, Meghan is seen greeting her fans and when she faced the next one, Jenny was heard saying: “Hello miss Markle, we’re from the Philippines, it’s our wedding anniversary today… I’m so lucky, (having met you in person) thank you so much.” “Oh amazing! Happy anniversary! That’s so sweet of you to come out here,” replied Meghan. While they were shaking hands and giving thanks to each other, the Filipina was surprised when Meghan said “Salamat po.”
Meghan proceeded to greet other fans, She still can’t believe what she heard and the fact that she shook hands and had a brief chat with the Hollywood star and a future princess of the British Royal Family.
The video was shared on Facebook by Jenny on Sunday, was re-shared by blogger Malcolm Conlan and has since gone viral and was viewed more than 90K times as of this article’s posting. Filipino netizens, mostly Meghan Markle fans, speculate on the comments section how the princess-to-be learned some Filipino words.
Some think that there could be a Pinoy who works for the Royal Family while others guess that Meghan knows some Tagalog; thanks to her upbringing in Los Angeles, California, where there’s a large Filipino population. Daily Mail mentioned that Meghan Markle once wrote online: ‘”Growing up in LA, with its melting pot of vast and varied cultures, I was no stranger to the Filipino community.
I can whip up a big pot of chicken adobo like it’s nobody’s business, and you’ll occasionally hear me toss out a ‘Salamat po’ conversationally.” You may see it on the source below:
